AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
Video about a fellow who loaned his AR to a friend. The rifle malfunctioned, allegedly going full auto. The owner has been found guilty of transporting an illegal firearm and is due for sentencing.
http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bes....govt.guns.cnn Moral of the story? Don't loan your firearms to anyone. |

Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
I was reading about this a few days ago. The most ridiculous thing I have ever seen (almost). I guess you can always trust the government to use common sense. :sarcasm:
While on the topic of fully automatic firearms, I am of the opinion that everyone should be allowed to own fully automatics. |
Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
I bought a lower from Oly many years ago and I can say with confidence that it was totally out of spec, and the biggest piece of crap I ever had the misfortune of buying. Never again!!

Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
the fact is it only double tapped a few times:thumpdown:thumpdown. This can be accomplished by high seating a primer!!

One thing about this that sounds a bit strange. You let someone who wants to buy a rifle go to a range and blast over 800 rounds through on the chance he "might" buy it. What the hell was he gonna do shoot one thousand rounds or more in an afternoon and bring it back and say "naw - no thanks changed my mind". One or two mags maybe but 800 friggin rounds:confused_ma:
He'd been better off gettin the cash up front. The rifle slam fires and the former owner can say "it was fine when I sold it to him, what he did after that is his business." |

Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
I saw this on Lou Dobbs' show last week. I cannot help but wonder what key bits of info were not in the story. There just has to be more to this. The lesson I learned from this is not to ever lend your guns to anyone, you never know the scrutiny they will get.
From what I know about semi auto and full auto on the AR platform, the bolt carriers are different. Full auto bolt carriers are not for sale to the public, you need paperwork to get one. I'm wondering if there were any irregularities the ATF discovered on the internal parts of the AR15 in question? If the rifle was subject to a recall maybe the owner didn't know about it. The bottom line is that this guy's life is ruined because of this. Even if he beats it on appeal, look at how much money it will cost him. In reality, he'll still be a looser if you put a price on it. I can't help but believe this was intended to scare everyone who has an AR15 not to ever go to a public firing range. |
Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
I've seen an AR double tap after the owner filed the sear in an effort to "improve" the pull. I'm around AR's a lot and have never seen any problems with the triggers before.
If you want to improve your trigger pull, there are some great aftermarket triggers out there. |

Re: AR malfunctions, owner off to prison?
I had a AR "parts gun" back in the late '80's that would go full on its own after about 1300 rounds.I would replace the sear, again, and it would be fine.
I think the fact it was a multicolored slapped together thing of who knows how many origins was the problem. I now have a national match Colt HB that is a work of art after a little accurizing. :applause_Jard trigger systems Rock! |
